Authenticated Tigers

1965 Model Year "CKD" MK I's
If you have had your Tiger authenticated and it does not appear
on these lists, please
contact me and I will be happy to make updates.
There is often some delay in data exchange with "TAC" officials.

Note: As the listing on this page is not likely ever to contain more than just a few vehicles and the odds against bumping into a "CKD" clone are extremely high, it might be more informative to review some images of the South African "CKD" Tiger breed.

This "Violet" (albeit now safely in Australia) has the great  distinction of being the first South African Tiger
to receive a  celebrated "TAC" sticker.

During 1965, and 1966 a mere seventy-three Alpine 260s were assembled in Africa near Johannesburg, at National Motor Assemblies.  Of that group, the "Registry" has managed to gather information on nearly fifty of those machines.  The hunt continues of course, so if you can contribute, please make a joyful noise.

I'm not exactly sure what has happened to this example.
When last heard of, it was in South Africa, on the market, being pursued by some good folks in Denmark.   Possibly it actually made the jump and is headed for restoration.

Here's one that would make a happy addition to any collection.  Its Johannesburg owner was an early bird in spotlighting this unique group of "CKD" export Tigers.

I just have to give credit to the keeper of this long-term
project.  Without the enormous efforts of Mr. Garry
Connacher, there would have been no "African Violets"
chapter in The Book Of Norman.  This picture and others he
supplied, unlock many unknown South African Tiger secrets. Garry's car has made it to fresh paint,  but still awaits a
"break in the action" for reassembly.

Some would argue it's a tad overdue, but  regardless,
after
migration to the U.S.A. and being part of a Senior TAC
Inspector's collection since 1999, this South African Tiger
has become the third "ALP" bodied champion to join the
elite ranks of verified "V8s".

Several of the RSA Tigers have been "re-imported" to the UK.
This one was recently offered via a Cheshire broker's website.
If I can trust the email, there was some initial interest, but
its current status is uncertain.

Another CKD objet d'art on its way back to England.  Rescued
after the passing of a lifelong friend,  we see it here at the
 beginning of the long journey.....

And here as the finished resurrection,  a true tribute
to a Marque enthusiasts.

Definitely further from the previous precipice, another of the
CKD transplants as it appeared in STOC classifieds.  At some
point in its road-life an automatic had replaced the original
top-loader.  Thankfully, Brian Postle (Sunbeam Spares) made short work of setting things back to manual.

Speaking of tributes, we're told a good Samaritan (an
unflappable Englishman) actually acquired this  breaker's
yard "lump" with plans for resuscitation.  Sadly, despite the
 magnificent skills of
Her Majesty's Tin Smiths  there was
no saving this hapless remnant of the African clan
.

While I haven't totally exhausted my South African Tiger image resource, these were the most accessible. If you happen to feel slighted, I'm more than willing to enhance the gallery.  Give me a SHOUT
