Please: The list on this page is not the total "Registry" record of surviving '65 cars.  It is an accounting of only those vehicles that have been authenticated under the (S.F. Bay Area) Sunbeam Tiger Owners Association "TAC" program.  STOA sanctioned inspections can be arranged through the Seattle area Pacific Tiger Club, the Los Angeles based California Association of Tiger Owners, to some degree, under the rather broad umbrella of, Tigers East Alpines East and in the "land down under" via the Sunbeam Owners' Club - NSW.  Additional expansion of this service is on-going, albeit moving at a snail's pace.  My listing includes the home locations for these vehicles to help emphasize the growing reach of the project.

Feral Felines


The car above and its sister below are two "look-a-likes" that have, on more than one occasion, been mistaken for legitimate Harrington Tigers.  Those of us in the know are well aware of the singularity associated with the true Harrington, which rightfully you will find chronicled next door with TAC number 0070.

Both of these phantom fast backs, visited the U.S. for the first Sunbeams International gathering in 1989.

Also in attendance, and I'm sure adding a bit of discomfort, was the actual

This car holds the precarious honor of having helped launch the TAC program.  After being judged the second best Tiger in the stock "Concourse" class at an STOA hosted Tigers United, observers pointed out evidence of less than certain pedigree, prompting a serious reexamination of club policies.  Within a short period of time, a program of discovery lead to cataloging a usable set of differentiating guidelines and the authentication process was given the go ahead.  Interestingly, there are contemporary revelations concerning this vehicle, which seem to suggest a very special "AF" life before its dubious restoration.  Should those suspicions bear fruit, it will be hard to justify what has happened to this once prime piece of early history.

What we have here is one of the few vehicles not to pass a TAC inspection.  If you think about it, the odds against having questionable cars presented for authentication are very high.  Why run the risk, even if you might think the experts can be fooled?  The owner of this car had no idea there could be a problem with his new toy.  He had purchased from what he considered a trustworthy operation and had gone on to invest several thousand dollars in improvements.

After the initial discovery, the car is thought to have been quietly used and enjoyed, until, without pointing fingers, this same machine was sold to another unsuspecting buyer at the 1997 edition of "Hot August Nights".


How about a migrant from England?  It  first journeyed to New Zealand, then off to Australia, where some may remember spotting it on eBay, with much hubbub about pedigree.  In fact, it made more than one appearance on that venue, accompanied by a chorus of originality claims and perfectly fuzzy pictures.  At no time during the process did anyone contact the "Registry" to verify what was actually being offered.
  
 
Another of the great illusions.  Many might, and do, argue no foul.  What better way to preserve the marque - right?  Substitute an Alpine body as the base for a V8 powered competitor, instead of exposing a genuine Tiger to the potential of destruction.  The only "minor" hurdle is that these pretenders brazenly carry the identification of the real thing, with, as you can imagine, nary a declaration to the contrary.  One wonders about the reaction from officialdom should the true nature of these clones be made public.
